Elizabeth Peters

I've been reading the Amelia Peabody books since 1975 when Elizabeth Peters started writing them. In the first book, Amelia is a young, single Englishwoman on an adventurous trip to Egypt in the late Victorian era. She eventually meets and marries Emerson ... a dashing archaeologist ... and they have a singularly precocious son, Ramses. Unlike many cozy series, Amelia has actually aged! The authors holds a Ph.D. in Egyptology from Universitiy of Chicago, so the readers can learn quite a bit about the country and its archaeology. The books also have a good dose of humor ... and Amelia is a great character. Ms. Peters writes non-series books, but I haven't read them ... so only the Amelia Peabody mysteries are listed here.
