Lee Harris

Anyone who grew up being taught by nuns will have either horror stories about or a special affection for the good sisters. I’m in the latter group. So, books featuring nuns (or ex nuns in the case of the the Christine Bennett mysteries) are always high on my to-read list. Christine is a sweet character who gave up her religious vocation, but never stopped caring about the sisters she literally grew up with. Sister Joseph, her former Mother Superior, remains her closest female friend –more of a mentor, really. All of the Christine Bennett mysteries center on a holiday, much like Jane Haddam’s mysteries featuring Gregor Demarkian – but Lee Harris’s books are gentler and less violent. I recently discovered Lee’s second series featuring Detective Jane Bauer. Although they are police procedurals, the one I read and reviewed (Murder in Alphabet City) didn’t contain the excessive violence, explicit sex or profanity that cozy readers try to steer clear of -- and it was a terrific book. Lee Harris is a writer cozy fans can count on to deliver.
